Although smoking is not as desirable as it once was, lighters can still be highly collectible and they can still be practical in household use. Lighters were extremely popular in the Art Deco era and came in many forms, including novelty characters and animals. Art Deco Amber Scent Bottle Van Cleef & Arpels

An Art Deco amber scent bottle signed ‘Van Cleef & Arpels. Paris. No 25051’, the gold mount with the maker’s mark of Strauss Allard & Meyer. The damaged amber bottle with carved Chinese fishing scenes, the jadeite lid with black enamel and diamond bands, with an ivory stopper, height 8cm.

Sold for £2,500 at Bonham’s

Cigarette Holders

Cigarette holders were fashionable items from the 1910’s and were especially popular during the Art Deco era. Reference: Wikipedia. Hollywood films would often portray ladies smoking using holders and it was considered glamorous during those years. Many of them would be made from bakelite but precious metals and gemstones were also used including onyx and amber.
